Description
Farmhouse. Built in the early 17th century, with alterations and additions in the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries. The farmhouse is constructed of rubble with brick dressings and has stacks and a double Roman tiled roof. Originally in an L-shape, it includes a through passage and a dairy wing at the rear left, and an early 19th-century wing to the front right. It is two storeys high and has three bays. A 20th-century porch and door are present. The windows are irregularly placed: the ground floor to the left has two 3-light 20th-century casements in brick surrounds, and one 4-light casement in a brick surround to the right. The first floor has two 3-light casements in brick surrounds. The upper part of a steeply pointed gable is visible above the right wing. The roof is half-hipped to the left, with a large, weathered external stack. A single-storey wing with a pitched roof has irregular casement windows with segmental heads and brick surrounds, as well as a dormer. An external stack is located in the gable end with a brick chimney. The rear of the farmhouse has 20th-century single-storey extensions and irregular fenestration, including 20th-century 3-light casements at the first floor. Inside, the original front door has strap hinges and a latch. A winder stair is to the right of the former through passage. To the right are a pig-killing room and a cheese-room. Deeply chamfered ceiling joists are present. The formerly external door to the dairy wing has strap hinges and a moulded wooden frame. A front left room features early 19th-century architraves around the windows. The first floor has deeply chamfered ceiling joists with run-out stops, and an original plank door with a strap hinge leading to the attic stair.
