Description

The Lodge is a lodge, now a house, dated 1731, with alterations and extensions from the 19th century and around 1930, built in a matching style. It is likely that it originally served as a lodge for Knole Park, which has since been demolished. The building is constructed of rubble, rendered, with plain tile and pantiled roofs and brick stacks. It has an irregular plan and a picturesque appearance. The front gable is two storeys high and features decorative bargeboards and a spike finial. It has one three-light casement window on each floor, both with diamond glazing bars from around 1820, shutters with strap hinges, and a timber lintel. The wall curves to the south, accommodating a window, while a smaller window with hexagonal glazing bars is located to the north. A rear extension dating from around 1930 incorporates rubble at ground floor and exposed timber construction. This extension includes a porch with a panelled and glazed door, two dormers, a window in the gable end, and a three-light casement window at ground floor, all featuring diamond glazing bars.
