Description

Coombe House is a building that originally comprised two houses from the 19th century, now functioning as a single residence. It features a date inscription on the door head that reads "1617 CIRCA," indicating earlier origins with later alterations and additions. The structure is constructed of rubble with stone dressings and quoins, topped with brick pantiled roofs that include gable ends and central stacks. The building has an L-plan layout and a symmetrical front, standing two storeys high with four windows. The ground floor windows are 20th century and have segmental heads, while the first floor includes two 19th century casements under timber lintels on the left and two casements with segmental heads on the right. There is a 20th century porch in the second bay from the right, featuring a door framed in wooden architrave with decorative strap hinges. The south side displays a late 20th century plain shop front and two 20th century windows on the first floor, with timber coped verges. A single storey side wing includes a 20th century door and window, along with a 17th century two-light window. The rear of the building has random windows. Inside, the property features chamfered beams, plank doors with strap hinges and latches, a plain bressumer above the fireplace in the front left room, cross windows on the rear ground floor with leaded lights, and a cellar beneath part of the building that has a former door with a cambered head.
