Description
Rose Cottage and The Cottage are two houses, originally one, dating back to the 16th century with subsequent alterations and additions. The construction uses rubble, which has been rendered, and the roofs are pantiled, featuring a gable stack to the left and a central stack. The layout is L-shaped, originally with a through passage. The main block has a single storey and attic, while a C19 gable-fronted wing extends to the right. The main block's steep gables have scalloped valances. The windows are primarily 2, 3, and 5-light casements. The left-hand gables have nine panes per light, the right-hand gables have three panes per light, and a C20 dormer casement is centrally located with nine panes. A C20 porch with studs and strap hinges fronts Rose Cottage, while The Cottage has a C20 door on the north side of the main block. Further windows on the north side include one casement at ground level and another in the attic. The rear of the property features C20 windows and extensions, with the exception of a C19 casement in The Cottage and a rear gable wing with plain bargeboards. Rose Cottage has a single-storey extension. Inside, there are chamfered and stop-chamfered spine beams with run-out stops, a wall in Rose Cottage with exposed studs, and a plank and batten door with strap hinges.
