Description

Over Farmhouse, now a house, was originally built in the mid-to-late 17th century and was remodelled around 1840, with further alterations in the 20th century. The farmhouse is constructed of rubble, with roughcast on the front and sides, and ashlar dressings including a plinth. The roof is slate at the front and double Roman and pantiled at the rear, with stone gable stacks and a stack to the right of the front door, along with diagonally set chimneys and a stone roof ridge.

The building follows a U-plan, formerly featuring a cross-passage. The front of the building is in a Tudor Gothic style, with two storeys and three windows. The central door is within a porch featuring a four-centred arch and drip mould, topped with coped verges and kneelers. Ground floor windows are within canted bays, while first floor windows have drip moulds, all being casements with Tudor arched heads and octagonal leaded lights. A cornice and embattled parapet runs along the top of the building.

There are wings to the rear; a two-storey, three-bay dairy wing is to the left and a single-storey wing to the right. These have irregular window placements. The rear of the main block has two ground floor windows matching the front design, and a single three-light casement under a timber lintel on the first floor. A ground floor rear window replaces what was formerly the cross-passage door.

The interior includes a 17th-century front door with a four-centred arched head, studs, and a strap hinge. There are chamfered beams, some of which have been boxed in. A well is located in the rear courtyard.
