Description
Over Court Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with alterations and additions from the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rubble and rough-cast, topped with a slate roof featuring gable stacks. The building has an L-shaped plan that includes a front projecting wing and a former through passage.
The farmhouse is two storeys high and has two windows, all of which are three and four-light casements with ovolo mullions set in moulded wooden architraves with drip moulds. The west side of the front wing has two three-light casements at the ground floor, with a 20th-century window to the right, and two two-light casements at the first floor. The main block features a central 20th-century porch that has a four-centred arched door, which is four-panelled and studded, with the upper panels glazed in a recessed flat-headed opening. The south gable front includes a two-light window to the left and a large external stack, along with a decorative valance under all eaves.
The east side has irregular 19th and 20th-century windows and a door, while the west side has one three-light casement at the ground floor and a two-light mullioned window at the first floor. The rear of the farmhouse has a single-storey extension from the 19th and 20th centuries.
Inside, the original through passage has been replaced by a 19th-century stair. There is a winder stair at the rear of the passage, which features a 17th-century door with strap hinges at the bottom, as well as a winder stair in the front wing. The interior also includes chamfered stopped beams.
