Description

Washingpool Farmhouse is an 18th-century farmhouse that has been altered and extended in the 19th and 20th centuries. It is constructed of rubble with stone dressings, featuring a concrete tiled front roof and double Roman tiles at the rear. The building has weathered coped verges with kneelers at the gables and gable stacks, forming a U-plan structure.

The farmhouse is two storeys high and has three windows, all of which are 19th-century casements with three and four lights, segmental heads, and flat timber lintels with drip moulds above. There is a central porch with a pointed arched opening in a stone surround, also with a drip mould. A small bull's eye window in a similar stone surround is located in the gable, with slit recesses on each side wall. The entrance features a four-panelled door with a Tudor-arched head. At the attic level, there are two bull's eye windows in stone surrounds on the sides.

To the left, there is a 20th-century extension, while the rear wings have gable ends with a curtain wall between them, enclosing a courtyard. The right rear wing has a decorative wooden valance under the eaves and Tudor-arched headed casements on the first floor. Inside, the layout follows a cross passage plan with a winder stair at the rear. The front two rooms contain 19th-century marble fireplaces, and the rear wings house service rooms, including a former dairy and cider room to the west.
