Description

Ostbridge Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse with origins dating back to the early 16th century, with a rear dairy wing added in the 17th century and later alterations. The building is constructed of rubble and features a treble Roman tiled roof with brick gable stacks, including one on the left side. It has a T-plan layout with a through passage and stands at 1½ storeys tall, featuring five windows, all of which are 20th century and located under timber lintels. There are two additional windows under the eaves, a small gable on the left with a window, and a gabled garderobe tower on the left that has a slit at the upper level and a small window at ground level. The door in the second bay from the right has a chamfered wooden frame with a depressed four-centred arch, and there are two buttresses to the right with timber between them, as well as a cross-tie and a small light at ground level. The rear of the farmhouse has two windows under the eaves and a 20th century single-storey extension. The rear door matches the one at the front, while the dairy wing has a ground floor window on the north side and a rear window, along with a first-floor two-light casement featuring ovolo mullions and square leaded lights. There is also a window in the gable end above with plank shutters, and a 20th century single-storey extension to the rear south with a window above. Inside, the south room has deeply chamfered beams that divide the ceiling into six panels, and the central room also features deeply chamfered beams and a fireplace with a moulded lintel. The farmhouse was formerly an open-hall house.
