Description

This is a farmhouse, now divided into three separate houses, dating to the early 17th century with later alterations and additions. The farmhouse is constructed of rubble, which has been rendered, and has double Roman tiled roofs with gable stacks and diagonal chimneys to Pool Cottage, while the other two cottages have pantiled roofs. Originally designed with a through passage, the front door is located in No. 2 Pool Cottage.

Pool Cottage is two and a half storeys high and has one window. It features a 3-light casement window in the gable end and at ground floor, both with a drip mould. The east elevation has a similar 3-light casement in a small gable, featuring ovolo mullions and leaded lights, along with a 3-light casement at the first floor, also with a drip mould. A 20th-century porch and a lean-to, originally open, were later walled in during the 20th century. The rear of Pool Cottage is characterised by a gable with a 2-light casement with leaded lights, a chamfered mullion and a loop catch.

No. 2 Pool Cottage is two storeys high with two windows, featuring 2-light casements at the first floor and a 3-light casement at ground floor. It has a canopy and trellis porch to the right, along with a plank and batten door featuring a glass insertion. The rear has a catslide roof and 20th-century windows. Myrtle Cottage is two storeys high with one window, and a 20th-century porch. A 20th-century flat-roofed extension is situated at the rear.

The interior of Pool Cottage includes a ground floor beam that is bolection moulded and stopped, a fireplace with a cambered lintel and decorative carving, double cupboard doors with strap hinges, and a plank and batten door to a newel stair rising to the attic. The first floor has a 4-centred arched door with chamfered and stopped jambs, now blocked (leading to No. 2 Pool Cottage), along with a similar beam to the ground floor. The second floor has inner ovolo mullions to a 3-light window. No. 2 Pool Cottage retains a former rear through passage plank and batten door and a stud and rail screen to the rear of a ground floor room. The interior of Myrtle Cottage has not been inspected.
