Description

The entrance gatepiers, gates, and walls to the east of Langford Court date from the late 18th century. The gatepiers are made of ashlar stone, while the wall bases are constructed from rubble stone, with brick walls and dressed stone copings topped by wrought iron railings. There are two pairs of flanking piers on either side of the central gatepiers, making a total of six piers. The flanking piers stand 1.5 metres high and feature moulded bases, cornices, and spiral fluted urn finials. These flanking piers are connected to the central gatepiers by curving and ramped quadrant walls with plain wrought iron railings. The central gatepiers rise to 2 metres and display chamfered rustication, floral garlanded entablatures beneath fluted friezes, and moulded caps with swagged rams' head urn finials, although the finial on the left has been renewed. The entrance features two ornamental gates with arrowhead dog bars and wrought iron scrolls on the top bars.
