Description
Langford Court is a detached house dated 1651, with early 19th century and 1875 alterations and additions. The central block is rendered, while the 1875 block to the left is constructed from squared and coursed rubble, featuring dressed stone openings and copings. The central doorway and stacks are faced with ashlar, and the building has wooden cornices. The central block has a slate roof, while the later additions have double Roman tiles.
The house is two storeys high and has a seven-bay range, with an advanced three-bay center and further advanced lower two-storey wings at each end, creating a symmetrical appearance. The windows include 12-pane sashes in the centerpiece and 8 and 16-pane sashes elsewhere, with the wings featuring small pane French windows. There is one 1875 cross-mullioned window in the recessed left section. The lower two-storey 1875 range has windows with three and five-light ovolo mullions.
The centerpiece of the main block features a projecting tripartite door surround with a cornice and pediment, flanked by round-headed windows beside a round-headed glazed door. Above the fanlight is a date tablet from 1651, and there is a round-headed, keyed window above and below the eaves, along with a clock dated 1875. The centerpiece and wings have a dentil eaves cornice, while the remainder has a plain parapet. There are end brick stacks, and the rear range includes gabled 17th century dormers with one three-light ovolo mullioned window. The interior was modified when the Court served as a school.
