Description
The gate lodge, gatepiers, and walls located to the southeast of Langford House were built around 1860. They are constructed from squared and coursed rockfaced stone, featuring flush dressed stone quoins, wooden lintels, flush limestone string courses, and plain tile roofs. The lodge has an angular T-shaped plan and is designed in a Picturesque chalet style, comprising one storey and an attic. The windows are 2-light mullions with plate glass lights, and there is a canted bay facing the drive, a lean-to porch, and a plank door positioned at the angle facing the road. The eaves cornice is bracketted, and the roofs are hipped and gabled, topped with a tall central brick chimney stack.
The gatepiers are 2 metres high, made of dressed stone with vermiculated rustication at the bases and pyramidal caps. There are lower quadrant walls, 0.5 metres high, featuring close patterned flat section ironwork screens adorned with rose-centred roundels and a fleur de lys frieze. The gates, which are similar in design, consist of two leaves and are positioned between the gatepiers, featuring moulded bases, coved tops, and ironwork finials.
