Description

Madura Parkview is a pair of houses dating from the early 19th century, with earlier origins. One house, Madura, is constructed of coursed and roughly dressed granite, while the other, Parkview, is rendered. They have half-hipped slate roofs and rendered ridge and rear stacks. The houses were originally built with a single-depth plan, which was extended to a double-depth plan in the early 19th century. Each house is symmetrical, featuring a 3-window front. Madura has a 6-panelled door within a doorcase with half-columns leading to a flat hood, and late 19th-century horned plate-glass sash windows. Parkview has a mid-20th-century door within a similar doorcase, with granite lintels above 20th-century ground-floor windows and late 19th-century plate-glass sash windows on the first floor. The left return wall of Madura shows quoins in the centre, indicating the rear wall of an earlier house which was deepened and heightened in the early 19th century. The interiors were not inspected. The buildings display group value.
