Description
Shearwater is a house dating from the early 19th century, constructed of roughly coursed granite rubble with a pebbledash render front. It features a gabled slate roof and brick end stacks. The building has a double-depth plan with a central entry and staircase, and it stands two storeys high with attics, presenting a symmetrical three-window range. A 20th-century porch with trellis work leads to the front door, which has an overlight. The ground floor includes two slightly-bowed tripartite sashes with glazing bars, dating from around 1900, while the first floor has 6/6-pane sashes. There are two hipped attic dormers with similar sashes and slate-hung cheeks. Inside, the property features panelled dados in the bay windows, with reeded cornices and moulded wood architraves. The first floor has ovolo-moulded joists, and the building includes iron-bolted A-frame trusses, characteristic of 19th-century Scillonian construction. Additionally, there are mid-19th-century decorative cast-iron railings at the front.
