Description
Parade Cottage is a house dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, located on the south side of The Parade in Hugh Town. The building is constructed from colourwashed coursed granite rubble, with some squared stone at the front, and features a gabled slate roof and a rendered stack on the left end. It has a two-room plan with a central entry and staircase, standing two storeys tall with a two-window range. The granite lintels above the central six-panelled door, which has two glazed upper panels, and the horned two-over-two pane sash windows are notable features. There is a 20th-century outshut at the rear. Inside, the cottage retains an exceptionally complete 19th-century Scillonian interior, including panelled doors, joists, and plank and muntin partitions surrounding the central staircase. The ground-floor room on the left, which was formerly a kitchen, has cupboard doors flanking a blocked fireplace, and the cupboard doors leading to the first-floor room on the left feature H-hinges.
