Description
Bordeaux is a house and shop located on the north side of The Parade in Hugh Town. It dates from the early 19th century and has undergone later alterations. The building is constructed of roughly coursed granite rubble with a rendered front and features a gabled slate roof with a stack at the right end.
The layout consists of a three-room plan on the first floor, which has been opened up for shop use on the ground floor. The building stands two storeys high and has a three-window range on the first floor. The ground floor includes a mid-20th century door to a flat on the extreme left, next to a late 19th-century half-glazed door with an overlight. The early 19th-century tripartite shop front is framed by reeded pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice, featuring canted glazing-bar windows that flank a central half-glazed door.
On the first floor, there are two horned 6/6-pane sashes to the left of the canted bay window above the shop front, which has a tile-hung apron. This is complemented by a horned 8/8-pane sash flanked by two 2/2-pane sashes. At the rear, there is a mid-20th century slate-hung addition. The interior has not been fully inspected, but it includes plain 19th-century joists.
