Description
Simpson's Shop is a house with a shop that dates from the early 19th century, with later alterations made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of coursed granite rubble and has a colourwashed pebbledash front. It features a gabled slurried slate roof and rendered end stacks. The structure has a double-depth plan and stands two storeys tall, with a three-window range on the first floor.
On the ground floor, there is a plate-glass sash window to the right of a mid to late 19th-century tripartite shop front, which is framed by thin outer pilasters, a frieze, and a cornice. The shop front includes canted eight-pane windows that flank a three-panel door, which has a glazed upper panel and two sidelights to the right. The first floor features horned two-over-two pane sashes. Inside, there are plain 19th-century joists. The building is noted for its attractive 19th-century shop front and its group value with other nearby structures.
