Description

Muriau & Muriau Stores is an early 19th-century house with an early 20th-century shop to the left. The building features regularly coursed and dressed rubblestone and granite blocks, with the left gable end roughcast. It has a slate roof with coped verges and an integral end stack on the left gable end, along with roof lights on the rear slope. The structure is two storeys high, with an attic storey within the roof and partial cellars.

The front has three windows, with three sashes on the first floor that were probably originally nine-paned but now have plate glass on the lower leaves. The central entrance to the house is through a half-glazed door with a raised and fielded single panel, topped with a rectangular overlight that features the house name in etched glass, dating from around 1923. To the right, there is a wide fixed-light window with two mullions above a high transom. The shop front, also from around 1923, includes a recessed central entrance with a half-glazed door, curved display windows, and etched glass above a high transom, along with a painted fascia that has a simple cornice and brackets.

The interior of both the house and shop retains the traditional character of the early 20th century, likely featuring original joinery details, including the staircase in the house.
