Description
This is a house, dating from around 1820 to 1830. It's constructed of colourwashed rendered granite, with a hipped slate roof and rendered end stacks. The house follows a double-depth plan with a central stair hall. It has a symmetrical facade of three windows, arranged over two floors. A plat band is located above the ground floor, raised over the central door to function as the sill band for the central window; end pilasters are present, along with an eaves cornice and a parapet topped with a central block. A Doric pilaster and entablature frame a six-fielded-panelled door with glazing in a diamond pattern to the overlight. The windows are 6/6-pane sashes. Single-storey rear wings are present, each with a hipped roof.
Inside, you’ll find panelled shutters and doors set within moulded architraves, enriched plaster cornices, and reeded marble fireplaces with paterae and decorative cast-iron grates. An archway leads to the rear stair hall, which includes a fine cantilevered open-well staircase. This staircase has fret-cut brackets and a wreathed mahogany handrail.
Externally, granite walls curved to the east are flanked by cast-iron railings featuring palmette heads, along with a two-leaf central gate.
