Description
Nos 27, 28, and 29 on North Street in Fontmell Magna are a house that was once used as an inn and is now divided into three cottages. The building dates back to the 15th century, with alterations made in the 16th or 17th century and later periods. It features a timber frame and rubble construction, with the end wall built in English garden wall bond brickwork. The thatched roof has end and near central brick stacks. The building is single storey with attics and has irregular fenestration, showcasing a variety of single, two, and three-light casements, most of which appear to be from the 19th century. There are also plank doors located in various places.
Internally, the house retains three bays of a cruck roof, with the central cruck being chamfered, indicating that it may have originally served as an open hall. The floors are supported by deep chamfered ceiling beams.
