Description

Nos. 9 and 10 on Corby Road are two cottages that were formerly one house. They date from the 15th and 17th centuries, with some remodelling in the 20th century. The exterior is made of coursed limestone rubble, featuring ashlar quoins and dressings, while the rear wall shows remnants of an oak frame. The roof is covered with pantiles and has a single ridge with gable moulded stone stacks. The building has a lobby entry plan and is a single storey with attics, presenting a five-bay front. This front includes two planked doors, one three-light window, and two two-light windows, all with chamfered mullions. Each opening is topped with a stone hood. The roof features two gabled dormers at eaves level, which have two-light casements and rendered cheeks. The rear wall reveals two bays of an earlier framed building, complete with a wall plate and a pegged oak frame. Inside, there is a 17th-century chamfered inglenook bressumer with shield-shaped stops.
