Description
Nos 1, 2, and 3 Nicolson's Place is a house that has been altered into three cottages. It primarily dates from the mid-19th century but retains some elements from the 17th century. The building is constructed of thin coursed rubble with dressed quoins and has a stone slate roof. It is two storeys high and features three irregular bays.
The first bay projects slightly and has quoined angles, with a doorway to the left that has monolithic jambs next to a large window with plain stone surrounds. The first floor of this bay is blind. The second bay includes a doorway with composite jambs and a Tudor-arched lintel with spandrels, along with a stop-chamfered surround; there is a window on each floor with tie-stone jambs. The third bay (No. 1) has a doorway with monolithic jambs and a window with tie-stone jambs on both floors. The first floor retains four-paned sash windows, while the ground floor windows have been altered to casements.
There are three stacks at the ridge. The rear of the building has two ground floor windows with double-chamfered surrounds. The left-hand return features two bays of windows with plain stone surrounds and projecting sills. The rear angle is cut back with a broad chamfer that runs out with corbelled stone just above the ground floor window. The interior has not been inspected.
