Description

This is a house, later divided into two cottages. It dates to the mid-17th century and was refronted in the mid-18th century, with further alterations made in the early 19th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone, with dressed quoins, and has a stone slate roof. It has a 2-cell, central lobby-entry plan, designed as a double-depth house. The 18th-century front has a symmetrical three-bay facade. The central doorway has monolithic jambs and a chamfered arched niche or window above, which is now blocked. Originally, there were 4-light flat-faced mullioned windows with slightly recessed mullions on either side of the doorway; many of these now lack some or all of their mullions. A doorway was inserted to the left of the first-bay window in the 18th century. A large, well-dressed chimney stack is centrally located. A further chimney stack has been added to the left gable, alongside a lean-to which was formerly a stable. The rear elevation has a 4-light, double-chamfered mullioned window on the ground floor and a 3-light window on the first floor, along with later inserted windows and doorways, one of which is blocked. The other doorway is located in an outshut.
