Description

Old Hall Farmhouse, dated 1793, is a two-storey house constructed of hammer-dressed stone with a watershot finish on the south front, and rubble on the sides and rear. The building features dressed quoins and a stone slate roof. Its three-bay facade includes a central doorway with monolithic jambs and a triangular pediment, which has the date inscribed in the tympanum. To the left, there is a two-light flat-faced mullioned window, likely originally part of a tripartite sash, with a similar window above it on the first floor. The third bay has a single-light window with plain stone surrounds. The house has paired square-sectioned gutter brackets and coped gables with kneelers and stacks. The rear of the house has three bays of windows, with the first bay featuring a two-light window for the cellar and a similar window above on the first floor. There is a central stair window, and the third bay has a window without mullions, matching the size of the three-light window above on the first floor, with slightly recessed flat-faced mullions.

Attached to the left return wall is a lean-to with a doorway that has a monolithic chamfered lintel. The roof was raised in the mid-20th century, and the central bay has square windows with plain stone surrounds. The right return wall features similar detailing but includes a two-light window in the attic.

Inside, the lean-to covers a gable-entry doorway with composite jambs and a chamfered surround. At the south-west corner of the house, there is a rubble wall that joins the ashlar front wall, which is adorned with four tall turned columns topped with ball finials.
