Description
Battery Cottage is a detached cottage, originally two separate homes, dating from the early 19th century. It features coursed rubble stone walls and a thatched roof with gable ends. There are brick stacks located at the left-hand gable, along the ridge to the right of centre, and at the right-hand gable. The building has two storeys with three windows on the ground floor arranged as 3:3:2 and two windows on the first floor arranged as 2:2:2. The windows are wood casements with glazing bars, featuring cambered arches on the ground floor and wood lintels on the first floor, with stone cills. The front door is located at the left and right centre, made of planks and glazed, dating from the 20th century. There are also 19th-century brick porches, with the left porch thatched and the right porch tiled. The cottage is situated immediately north of the earthwork surrounding Upton Battery.
