Description
The attached barn and cart shed, located immediately west of Poxwell House, dates from the 17th century, with some rebuilding to the west and a re-roofing in the 20th century. The structure features rubblestone walls and a clay tiled roof with gable ends. There is a through entrance to the barn with rebuilt jambs and lintel. On the southeast quoin, the initials "H H," presumably for Henry Penning, are scratched.
Inside, the barn has eight bays, with the four eastern bays likely being older than those to the west. The east end showcases original trusses of jointed cruck construction, although the cruck posts are longer than those of the eastern trusses. The attached cart shed has rubblestone rear walls and an open front into the yard, supported by five renewed posts and consisting of six bays. It features a thatched roof and has two leaf doors from the 20th century with strap hinges at the east end.
