Description

Little Thatch is a single cottage that was originally built as a pair of semi-detached cottages in 1843. It features dressed limestone walls and a thatched roof with gable ends. The brick stacks at the gable ends were renewed in the early 20th century. At the rear, there are twin thatch outshuts. The cottage is 1½ storeys high and has three windows, which are two-light wood casements with glazing bars and wood cills. Notably, it has unusual gauged stone voussoirs that are flared and closely jointed. There are three eyebrow dormers above, each with two-light metal casements from the 20th century. The front doorway is located to the left of center and features some voussoirs, along with a plank and muntin door that is also from the 20th century. There is a door in the north end wall, which was formerly for No. 3, and this door is a glazed 20th-century addition. Inside, each dwelling has a living kitchen with a small pantry and a staircase that is partitioned off at the back, along with a projecting outhouse. This building is part of a group that was all constructed by John T. Trenchard.
