Description

East Farmhouse is a building dating back to the 17th century, with a north extension dated 1697. It is situated at a right angle to the road, on Osmington Main Road. The house is constructed of rubblestone with dressed stone walls, and has a thatched roof, hipped on the left-hand side and gabled on the right. Brick stacks are present, one rising from the ridge towards the hip apex, and another at the right-hand gable. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has four windows on the front elevation. The ground-floor windows have hollow-chamfered stone mullions, arranged as 2, 2 and 3 lights, with wood casements and fixed lead lights, and returned labels above. A 3-light wood casement is located to the right of the front door. The first-floor windows are 2 and 3 light wood casements with lead lights, dating to the 18th century and later. The front door, positioned to the right of centre, features chamfered jambs and a depressed arch head with a returned label. The door itself is of 6 flush panels and dates to the 19th century. Originally, the interior layout comprised three rooms with end chimneys and a central unheated room, although it was subsequently enlarged to the north.
