Description
This is a Grade II* listed barn located 40 metres west of Jerrards in Sandford Orcas, dating from the late 16th century. The barn features rubble-stone walls with dressed stone quoins and is buttressed. It has a thatched roof that is hipped at both ends.
On the north side, there is a square stone porch entrance that reaches full height, supported by square buttresses with set-offs. The entrance has wave-moulded stone jambs and an integral wave-moulded cambered wooden lintel, with a carved stone Tudor rose in the gable head. The porch has two-leaf plank doors from the 19th century and a depressed-arch doorway on its east side.
The south porch, which faces the north porch, has a weatherboarded former entrance and a depressed-arch doorway with moulded jambs. It also features a plank door with strap hinges. The roof structure consists of six bays of jointed crucks and principals, with arch-braced collars and three sets of trenched purlins, all secured with wind-bracing and pegged construction.
