Description

SANDFORD ORCAS ST 61 NW HIGHER SANDFORD 5/134 Higher Orchard - II Former farmhouse, now private house. C17, with C20 alterations and extensions. Rubble-stone walls. Thatch roof with stone gable-coping at left hand end. Stone stacks at gable-ends. 1½ storeys. 4 windows, 3-light wood-framed iron casements with rectangular leaded lights. Wood lintels over, C19. Door, left of centre, panelled and glazed in the top half. North elevation, has a former dairy wing at rear, raised one storey in C20. Thatch roof. Porch, left of centre, C20 rubble-stone and gabled. Door-jambs in C17 style with depressed-arch head, C20. Plank-and-muntin door. Interior: open fireplaces in both end rooms. West room fireplace has a recess in the back wall and in the side wall. Cupboard with ribbed panel door and side-panels, all pierced, and with incised geometric ornament. HL hinges. C17. (RCHM, Dorset I, p 198(4)).
