Description
Yarn Barton is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th century. It is constructed of local stone coursed rubble and features a Welsh slate roof with a sawn stone ridge, set between stepped coped gables, and has brick chimney stacks at each end. The building is two storeys high and has three bays. It includes three-light casement windows that have earlier frames with later horizontal bar inserts, all under exposed timber lintels. The second bay has a six flush-panel door with glazed toplights in a heavy frame, which is topped with a timber lintel and a flat timber hood supported by brackets.
Inside, there are several 18th-century features, including an 'L'-plan staircase with a return handrail leading to the landing, and a variety of doors with two, four, and six panels. In the south room, there is a shell head cupboard recess and fielded panel window seats. The north room features a wide fireplace with a cambered arched beam. The owner mentioned in March 1983 that the cottage was formerly a chandler's shop.
