Description
The Corton Denham War Memorial is a war memorial erected around 1920. It features a rough-hewn granite Latin cross that is mounted on a tapered plinth, which itself rests on a square stone base. The front (west) face of the plinth is inscribed with the words: "TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF THE CORTON MEN WHO DIED FOR THEIR COUNTRY 1914-1918 'GREATER LOVE HATH, NO MAN THAT THIS, THAT A MAN LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS.'" The opposite face lists the names of the Fallen, while the south face includes the dates "1939-1945" and "NAMES" along with "1947" and "NAME R.A.F., DROWNED AT ADEN."
