Description
Combe Cottage is a detached cottage dating from the mid-17th century, located in Sandford Orcas. It features rubble-stone walls and has a front projecting stair-well next to the front door. The cottage is topped with a thatch roof that has gable ends and stone gable copings, along with ovolo-moulded kneelers. There are brick stacks at the gable ends, with the right gable stack being from the 20th century. The building is two storeys high and has three windows, which are 2-light and 3-light wooden casements from the 20th century, complete with glazing bars and lozenge-leaded lights in the top right window. The front door is a plank door with strap hinges, dating from the 18th century. The rear casements also feature lozenge-leaded lights with opaque quarries. Inside, there are open fireplaces in both end walls, with dressed stone jambs and cambered wooden lintels that have stepped stops. The ceiling beams are adorned with straight chamfers and stepped stops, and the floors are made of flagstones.
