Description
This is a barn located 50 meters west-northwest of Woodlands Farm House. It dates from the 17th century, with alterations and extensions made in the early 18th century and repairs carried out in the 19th century. The barn is timber framed and weatherboarded, standing on a high red brick plinth, and features an old tile roof. It has seven bays and a central midstrey on the north side, with an extension of three bays to the west that includes a second entrance on the north side of the first bay of the addition. The roof is half hipped to the west, while the midstrey roof is hipped. The barn likely started as a fully timber-framed structure, incorporating much reused timber from the 17th century. Two original trusses feature collared rafters with feet inset from the ends of the tie beams, and the apexes have yokes supporting the ridge piece with a short king post. The east gable and north wall are constructed of brick in English bond. The early 18th-century extension is continuous with the plinth, while the south wall plinth dates from the 19th century, when the roof was largely rebuilt.
