Description

This large barn, located to the north-west of Jealott's Hill Farmhouse, dates back to the 15th century and was altered in the 20th century. It features a timber frame construction that is weatherboarded, with the south end displaying an exposed frame and painted brick infill set on a high brick plinth. The roof is covered with old tiles, and there is a lower hipped extension on the north side, while the north-east side has a slate roof.

The barn has a long rectangular plan consisting of eight framed bays, with a gabled midstrey positioned in the fourth bay from the north on the north-east side. There are lean-to extensions on both sides of the midstrey. The exterior includes 20th-century casement windows in the lean-to extensions and one window in the midstrey, which has been weatherboarded over.

Inside, the barn features a queen post roof with clasped purlins and reducing principal rafters. The structure includes jowled posts with long arch braces supporting the tie beams, as well as curved windbraces. There are rafter holes at the feet of the rafters on the south side, and some of the rafters have been replaced.
