Description
Jealott's Hill Farmhouse is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house and office. It dates back to the 15th century, was extended in the 16th century, and underwent alterations in the early 19th century. The building features a timber frame that is encased in painted roughcast on the front and sides, while the rear is tile hung. It has a steeply pitched, old tile gabled roof.
The farmhouse has a U-plan layout with two crosswings and three gables facing the front. It stands two storeys high and is adorned with large brick chimneys on both the left and right sides, as well as a large brick chimney at the rear that is partly tile hung. These chimneys are topped with corniced heads and clay pots. There is also a smaller brick chimney on the right side towards the rear. The building has a high weathered plinth and exposed rafter and purlin ends. The sash windows, which have glazing bars, are set in slightly projecting moulded wooden frames.
The entrance front, facing northwest, is nearly symmetrical and features four bay windows. There are single bay gables projecting on each side of the central section, which has a gable that rises flush from the wall. The right gable has three windows on the ground floor, while the left gable was originally close studded on both floors. The central section has a two-bay layout with a repositioned entrance door that consists of six fielded panels, approached by four steps. Above the door is a rectangular overlight with a moulded wooden frame and a cornice above.
Inside, the farmhouse has many exposed beams. The beams on the ground floor in the right section are chamfered with shield stops, while the others are plain. There is a 17th-century inserted partition in the right section, featuring a doorway with a chamfered frame and a square head, also chamfered. On the first floor, along the external wall of the right-hand crosswing, there is evidence of a former garderobe. The roof structure includes a redundant crown post with clasped purlins and curved windbraces.
