Description

This is a detached house, likely dating to the 18th century with early 19th-century additions. It was originally used for an unclear purpose, but is reputed to have been a workshop for Huguenot silk weavers. The building is constructed of brick with tiled roofs and has two brick stacks located near the centre. A dentil cornice runs along the eaves of the main range, and a plat band is present at first-floor level at the ends of the building. The house has a cruciform plan, consisting of a main range with apsidal ends, and two central “wings” which were added as cottages. The house is two storeys high. The southern apse has three casement windows with lead lights under segmental arches on the ground floor. The first floor of the southern apse has two smaller, similar windows, and a central blind window. The northern apse has two casement windows with horizontal glazing bars under segmental arches on the ground floor; the central window has been blocked. The first floor of the northern apse has two casement windows with glazing bars and a central blind window. Casement windows with glazing bars are found in the wings. An added semi-circular porch sits on the east wall. Internally, ground floor rooms feature exposed ceiling beams.
