Description

The Last Straw is a detached cottage dated 1667, as indicated above the doorway, and situated on the south side of Verwood Road. The cottage is constructed of plastered cob walls with a hipped thatched roof, featuring a brick stack at the left end. It is originally one storey and attic, with a later extension to the left, also in matching construction and of single storey height. A more modern, single-storey, flat-roofed extension is situated at the right end. A ledged door is set within a rustic thatched porch. The ground floor has three casement windows with glazing bars, while the attic has two dormers, one featuring a casement with a horizontal centre bar. A C20 wing to the right has a part-glazed door and two casement windows. The main ground floor room features a chamfered ceiling beam and a large open fireplace with a timber lintel.
