Description
This barn, located 60 metres north-west of Liberty Farmhouse, dates from the late 18th century and features integral cart-sheds and loose-boxes. It has rubble-stone walls and hipped roofs covered with concrete tiles. The barn includes open entrances to the west at both the north and south ends, and a square porch on the east side with two-leaf plank doors, mirrored by another set of two-leaf plank doors on the opposite side. Loose-boxes are built into the angles on either side of the porch.
Inside, the roof construction consists of hammer-beams with collars that are pegged, and there are straight braces from the wall to the underside of the hammer-beam. The roof has two sets of butted through-purlins and is largely intact from the late 18th century, comprising five bays, although some sub-rafters were removed in the 20th century. This barn is comparable to the barn at Harvard Farm in Halstock.
