Description
This is a very large barn dating from the late 18th century, situated to the south-east of South Farmhouse. It is constructed of random coursed rubble stone with alternating flush quoins. The roof is covered in stone slates to the west and slates to the east. The barn has two large, projecting gabled cart entries on its south-west side. The cart entry nearer the centre has been restored with a new timber lintel, a relieving arch and a dovecot above. A two-bay lean-to is attached to the left, featuring a single tapering column between bays; this former animal shelter is now filled in, with a low, double-width entry to the left covered by a timber lintel. An additional similar lean-to sits between the cart entries. The cart entry nearer the west end is now blocked, also with a relieving arch and a square vent above. A small lean-to is attached to the right. A central two-bay lean-to is partially obscured by a single-storey stable block, probably dating from the early 19th century. This stable block has three stable doors and four hopper lights, with a mounting block opposite in the yard. The barn contains collar and tie beam trusses and several internal partition walls. The interior is only partially accessible.
