Description

Lewcombe Manor is a manor house set in grounds, built in the late 18th century and later refaced, with large extensions added in the late 19th century to create an L-plan in a 17th-century style. The main entrance front is therefore from the late 19th century. The exterior features snecked rubble-stone walls with moulded strings and a slate roof with stone gable copings. There are two composite stone stacks on the ridge. The return elevation to the north, which conceals the earlier part of the house, has rendered walls and slate roofs.

The entrance front consists of two storeys and dormers, with three windows on the ground floor displaying irregular fenestration. These include two- and four-light ovolo-moulded stone mullions with metal casements featuring lead lights in a lozenge pattern. There is a canted stone bay window on the left side of the ground floor, with a stone-framed single casement on each face. A four-light gabled dormer window is located on the left side. The porch, positioned to the right of centre, is gabled and stands at two and a half storeys, featuring moulded kneelers. The entrance has stone octagonal nook-shafts, imposts, and a round-headed moulded arch with a dropped key, all set within a square frame. The front door, on the inner face, is plank-and-muntin studded.

The return elevation has two storeys and four windows, with two-light transomed mullions and separate labels above. A small service block is located at the north-east, constructed of stone with low gabled roofs to the west and north, and a central stone stack. The wooden casements have glazing bars.

Inside the house, there is a staircase in the north (early range) dating from the early 19th century, featuring stick balusters. The corridors include pointed arches, and there are panelled doorways and reveals. A 19th-century staircase is located in the angle of the two ranges, showcasing barley-sugar balusters. The small compartmented panelling is from the 19th century but designed in a 17th-century style.
