Description

LEIGH ROAD 1. 5193 (south side) No 8 (Turnpike Cottage) SZ 0199 NW 2/84 II GV 2. Early C19. Formerly a pair of cottages in "Cottage Orne" style. At right angles to road. Plastered walls roughcast with smooth surrounds by openings. Thatch roof. Brick stacks. Single storey. The centre section is recessed between projecting blocks at each end. The east (entrance) front has an ornamental timber verandah along the recessed section, that roof carried down over this. Two ledged doors, one at each end of the verandah in the side walls of the projecting blocks. The west front originally had 2 doors, in round-arched openings - one now converted to a window. All windows have stone mullions and cast iron casements with ornamental glazing incorporating some coloured glass.
