Description

Longthorn Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the early 19th century, with a rear extension added in the late 20th century. It is constructed from local grey limestone rubble, with the right end rendered, and features a thatched roof that is hipped at the ends of the main range. There is a central axial stone rubble stack.

The original building is single depth and two rooms wide, with the rooms probably sharing the central stack. The front door is located to the right of center, and the cottage is designed in the Cottage Orne style. It has two storeys and an asymmetrical three-window front. To the right of center, there is a stone gabled porch that features an arched outer doorway and an early 19th-century plank and stud front door with strap hinges. The windows have symmetrical fenestration with segmental arches above the openings. The first-floor windows on the left and right are two-light casements, each with three panes per light, while the central recess has a sham window painted on the render. The ground floor features a similar casement window on the left, but the central ground floor window is blocked. The interior has not been inspected.
