Description

Carriage house and stable block to country house (qv). Late C18 or early C19. Flemish brickwork with some stone dressings, lias rubble with brick dressings, asbestos-cement slate roof. A central square block with pyramidal roof flanked by slightly lower hipped, set-back wings. The central unit, in 2 storeys, has 6-pane sashes above 2 wide openings to flat elliptical heads in brick voussoirs and stone key, on stone imposts, containing pairs of plank doors under matching plank tympana. The sides and back in rubble have dressed Portland stone quoins. This block has a simple wooden eaves cornice. Each wing, in rubble, has a 9-pane sash with radial head in a brick arch with stone key and impost, and deep stone sill; the left wing has a segmental arch with keystone over a door, and that to the right has been widened. Rear has flight of stairs centrally rising to a loading door; below the arched landing is a 2-light casement. INTERIOR: not inspected. Flank walls are plain.
