Description

The stable block, dating from the late 18th century to the early 19th century, is a symmetrical two-storey U-shaped structure that encloses a square yard, with a later boundary wall featuring a central gateway on the south side. The main central elevation on the south has a window arrangement of three, three, and three, with a slightly taller projected centrepiece. The archways in this area are now filled. The building has a slate roof and brick dentil eaves, with a central pediment that encloses a clock and features a stone moulded cornice. The red brickwork is laid in Flemish bond, with red rubbed flat arches at the sides and rubbed round arches with stone keys in the centre, above cambered arches with keys in yellow brickwork and yellow brick piers. The windows are sash style.

The east wing is complete, with its inner (west) elevation featuring five widely spaced openings. It also has a slate roof and brick dentil eaves, with a central hay-loft opening that rises above the eaves and is topped with a stone moulded pediment. The red brick walling is in Flemish bond with blue headers, and the upper openings are slightly cambered. The ground floor arches have yellow voussoirs, with a continuous yellow impost band and yellow jambs. Sash windows are present above, with lunettes at the ground floor. The central doorway features a cambered arch with yellow rusticated voussoirs and jambs. The south ends of the wings are one bay in matching style. The west wing retains its east (inner) and south walls but has been raised and widened to create a taller shed, which is open on the west side and covered with a corrugated asbestos roof.
