Description
The Bell Inn is a public house located on Meneage Street in Helston. It dates from the 18th century and was refronted in the mid to late 19th century. The front is finished in stucco and features a plinth, a string course, panelled end pilasters, and a moulded parapet cornice with modillions. The roof is steep and covered with grouted scantle slate, featuring two 18th-century hipped dormers that likely have 18th-century sidelights with glazing bars. The front also includes mid to late 19th-century four-pane hornless sash windows, with brick stacks at the ends. The building has a U-shaped plan that includes rear wings and stands two storeys high, presenting a nearly symmetrical three-window front with late 19th-century horned sashes. On the first floor, there is a nearly central four-pane sash set within a moulded architrave, flanked by pilastered canted oriels topped with a moulded entablature. The ground floor features a wide central carriage doorway supported by consoles and a hood, with a pair of four-pane sashes to the right and a similar sash to the far left. To the right of the left sash, there is a three-panel door with glazed top panels, likely in what was originally a window opening. The interior has not been inspected.
