Description

The Kings Arms Hotel is a public house that dates back to the 17th century and was refronted in the mid-19th century. It features a stucco front built on a rubble base and has a steep scantle slate roof that is half-hipped on the left, with brick end stacks and a rear lateral rubble stack. The building has a U-shaped plan, including two rear wings at right angles. It stands three storeys high and has a four-window range. The wide window openings on the upper floors contain late 19th-century pairs of horned sashes, while the ground floor features tripartite sashes. The main doorways are located towards the left and consist of a four-pane door with an open porch supported by square granite columns. Above the porch is a small first-floor chamber with three linked sashes, pilasters to the sash boxes, and a moulded entablature, along with a similar pair of sashes on each side. A six-panel door is situated at the far right. Inside, there is an original but heightened chamfered granite fireplace on the ground floor to the left, and it is said that the upper floors contain many features of interest.
