Description
No. 6 Broad Street is a large town house built in the late 18th century. It features Bath stone ashlar construction with mid-floor strings, rusticated quoins, flat keyed arches, and a granite plinth. The building has slate hanging on the returns and a dry slate roof behind a parapet, with brick end stacks. It has a double-depth plan and is designed in a late Georgian style, standing three storeys plus an attic over a basement. The symmetrical front has three windows, with original hornless sash windows that have thin glazing bars. The central doorway is round-headed and open-pedimented, approached by stone steps from the left, which are complemented by a 20th-century replica cast-iron balustrade. The doorway features fluted half-columns with caps, an entablature, and a fanlight above a six-panel door with lozenge panels. Inside, the house retains its original staircase and some old chimneypieces, with the left-hand front room showcasing an unusual late 19th-century multi-door grate and panelled window shutters.
