Description

The Old Fire Station, now a shop, was built in 1899. It is located on a corner site on Broad Street in Penryn. The building is rendered with rusticated quoins to the first floor, topped by a crow-stepped gable featuring a crested finial. The front of the building has eared architraves with segmental heads to the first-floor windows. Ground-floor end pilasters extend to a fluted entablature and a full-width moulded cornice above an elliptically-arched doorway with vermiculated dressings. The roof is covered with dry slate, and there are cast-iron ogee gutters. The building is two storeys high with a two-window front. Originally, the windows were transomed casements, but the doorway now contains a double shopfront. Internally, a moulded entablature from the former gallery is visible from the ground floor.
