Description
No. 5, Broad Street, Penryn, is a mid-18th century town house built on a 17th century site. The front is faced with incised stucco over a rubble core, and has a steep asbestos slate roof with a coved and moulded eaves cornice. Brick end stacks are present. The building has a deep plan, including a wing set at a right angle to the rear left. It is two storeys high with a four-window front. The windows appear to be original or from the late 18th century, and are twenty-four-pane sashes with glazing bars, although the ground floor right window is a later replacement. A house doorway is positioned under the third window from the left, featuring a key-patterned pilastered surround, with an early 19th century six-panel beaded door and a latticed overlight. Similar pilasters flank a late 19th century double shop front to the left, which has a splayed central doorway with sidelights, a glazed door with overlight, and a moulded entablature with a fascia. The interior has not been inspected, but is said to contain many features of interest.
